Who owns The Guardian, and What else do they own..


  • The company that owns The Guardian is Guardian Media Group (GMG), The sole shareholder is 'The Scott Trust' which was set up in 1936, this was to 'safeguard journalistic freedom and liberal values of The Guardian'. In 2008, it also became a limited company.
  • The profits that are gained are reinvested back in, to sustain journalism that is free from commerical or political inteference




  • In addition to owning The Guardian, Guardian Media Group also owns the sister paper, The Observer (which is published every sunday)  and Guardian Weekly. Guardian weekly, has the best of both worlds as it contains news from the observer and the guardian. It also has selected coverage from the Washington Post and Le Monde, it can be viewed online. 
  • They also own 'Trafford Park Printers' which prints the two papers. They also own a Manchester-based Television station, 'Channel M'. They have joint ventures with 'Trader Media Group' and 'Top Right Group', 
  • They also own 'Gmg-Property Services' which is a provider of software to independent estate agents.
  • Their investments provide financial security and support for their journalism.
